The first week of 2018 has come and gone (and the second week is just about done). It is the time of year where everywhere you look, everyone is making their New Year resolutions known and focusing on them. I am not one of them. I did not make any resolutions this year. Actually, I haven’t made any in a few years. Why you ask? Well there’s several reasons.
1. New Year’s Resolutions are meant to be broken.
I have made New Year’s Resolutions before and I don’t think I have ever kept one. There is so much pressure to make resolutions and that pressure prohibits you from enjoying and fulfilling them (at least that’s my case). Not to mention how you feel if you do not meet the resolutions.
2. You can make a change or set a goal any time of year.
The more I think about it, the more I wonder why is it with a new year everyone wants to make changes? Why not make it on Valentine’s Day or the Fourth of July or November 15th? The point is you can make a resolution… you can set a goal… any time of year. If you wait to New Year’s then you are just putting off something that can happen sooner.
3. It’s too much to do all at once.
As a busy SAHM/WAHM, there is soooooo much to do. I mean I have a hard time remember my name most of the time. Why do I want to add focusing on eating better, exercising more, losing weight, growing my businesses, focusing more on myself and self care, reaching out to friends and family more often, etc… on the first of every year. That is a lot to try to do all at once. To me, it makes more sense to spread the love and save my sanity.
What I will be doing…
For 2018, I will review, set goals (big and small) and plan. I will review my 2017 and the lessons I learned. Those lessons will be used to help me set my goals for 2018. Once my goals are clear, I will plan/outline how I will reach my goals and go from there. I will be flexible in knowing that things may not always go as planned and my “resolutions” will change… and that’s ok. I will also not force myself to do it all at once.
